Cameron asked:

I recently had my identity stolen and a credit card opened up, but I was able to catch it before they spent any money on it.. The only reason I even know about this card is because my friend had their identity stolen about 4 months ago and I got a credit report just to make sure I was okay… I have looked at several reviews and have heard some things from acquaintances. TrustedID I heard was really good, but this LifeLock review at www.lifelockreviews.net that I read makes it seem like they are the better choice. Any ideas?? Consumer reviews?

Monica

Stupdazz asked:

after THREE years of NO contact-And it was titled “What do you think?” and invited me to click on a link in her mail…called Lovehappens. I did. And it said I had an account there, but I had to request a password. I told her what happened in another email, and I was waiting for a password from the link site she gave me. No response. So, today, I figured to heck with it, and spent around 3 to 4 minutes filling out a profile for myself…added a picture. Then I got two pages of pop-ups asking me if i wanted to be on a this or that mailing list also, I put no on both. Then, a page came up and asked if I wanted to be able to email members for free, then asked for my yahoo address, then below it, asked for my yahoo password!!! She was PHISHING ME!!!! SO, I sent her my room-mates web-site from Pre-Paid Legal, a NYSE traded firm, that handles both legal services AND IDENTITY theft protection, and emailed my ex and told her in the title, What do YOU think-then sent my roomies site?
Although I think she is just being nosy and wants to find out my financials, who know? I told her it was a great stock too. But it sort of really angers me, should I do something about it?
OK, Gaspode, it was a singles site, we were engaged for a year and a half, and she looks like the young Marisa Tomei, nuff said? But it pisses me OFF!
Flow Kayla, it’s my opinion that she wants to see if I have any Schwab mail…money info’s etc.
PhD, sucker means I took the bait, I did not. PhD of what? Insults? You know what Pino Arlacchi says about insults. When you have the dough, let me know when you can sit down with me in an IQ test. Jealousy of all types sting huh PhD?

Lorraine

Chadd asked:

I moved into a new apartment, called peoples gas to place the heat in my name, asked for my social security #, Whence it was provided they told me it was provided already under someone else’s name with an outstanding balance due. They informed me that they don’t check social match to name unless there’s an alert for protection of a social number. They told me it was opened 2002 and closed 2007, I was 14 in 2002 so obviously I couldn’t have my own house, and heat in my name. They said I need to call transunion to prove it was me, then I received a bill from Peoples Gas in my name for the month, 2 days later I receive a notice from Peoples Gas stating I need to pay off a 507 dollar outstanding balance with 222 security deposit.

If someone has been ruining my credit by using my social since 2002 when I was 14 that would fully explain why I’ve had bad credit despite my perfect usage of credit cards and bills paid on time. I have been declined for many things, auto loans, school loans, apartments, etc because of an oddly bad credit score that made no sense. Now it does. So the question lies, theyre trying to bill me, this has been affecting me, what can I do about this? I feel I should be reimbursed for the time spent degrading my credit as well as the fact my credit is destroyed by someone else. What kind of lawyer can I get for this and what can I expect to get from suing? I do not deserve this damage on my record of my name and credit.

Carrie

Mya’s & Trent’s mom asked:

My ex bf tried to get a discover card in my name. I filed bankruptcy on the 18th and I was pulling up a credit report and saw an inquiry for discover financial. And it had His address and his phone number and he didn’t even get the place that I worked right on it for the employment. So, I have put a temporary credit alert on my credit and I did turn him in to the federal trade commission. They said to keep putting fraud alert protections on my credit. They said since he actually didn’t open an account that I didn’t need to make a police report. But i want to tell someone rather it be the police or sheriffs department. I t hink that he might have stole my birth certificate to, but I can’t prove that. I just want to know if I should go a head and tell the police or not. He is on parole for stealing from me. Can he still get introuble for an attempted identity theft or not.

Darren

moni asked:

Is it considered illegal identity theft if someone, just temporarily borrows another person’s identity with no intention to defraud anyone, or ruin anyone’s credit.

For example, if a person with no SSN uses a relatives name and SSN to buy a Prepaid Direct Deposit Cash Card to verify Paypal & so that family/relatives/friends, can easily send them money as needed?

Suppose that this person is in this country on an extended vacation & wants to sell on eBay some of the stuff they bought. Since they don’t have an SSN or US bank account to verify Paypal, can they set up an eBay/Paypal account in their relatives name, and use their SSN to buy a “No ID required(except for SSN) prepaid Direct Deposit ATM cash card” to verify their account, and get money.

If there is no intent to defraud, or actions to that effect (like applying for credit cards & running up huge bills then defaulting on payments) then is it considered identity theft & is it a crime?

Calvin

Sdlfk L asked:

I bought cigarettes for the grocery store and the lady asked for my license as usual, but this time she entered my id number into her computer and saved it to the stores database. Why would they do this and is this legal? also concerned about identity theft?
I know they usually enter my birthydays but this time she literally entered my FULL ID number into the computer and clicked SAVE.

Calvin
