Hector Milla asked:

A good identity theft protection company is one that offers reliable, convenient, competent and affordable services. Different companies offer different packages and plans that will suit your requirements. There are many services offered by the anti fraud services and they are all differently designed to make sure that there is no loss of identity to fraud thieves. The services that are offered involve life locks, ID watchdogs, identity guards and many others. A good company is one that will take you through detailed step by step information on how the services work. They should also tell you the pros and cons of theft protection.

People have over the years lost millions of cash through people who have perfected their art in ripping off people. One can fall to fraudsters through loosing ones social security number or passing the number to someone through a phone call. A good anti fraud service is one that will protect from these ways in which people can get your information and use it without your consent. The introduction of the internet has led to an increase in such theft cases, people have been known to hack into others people’s emails and use it to steal from them.

Anti spy wares and programs created are used to prevent such cases from taking place. The anti spy ware programs designed by these companies are to prevent the pop up ads that show up on ones computer. Most companies offer their products at great discounts and these are the places you should be looking for the services. Look for services that monitor credits, track your records, have alerts system services and those that keep in touch with you for additional information and updates. A good company should act as a watchdog of individual’s medical records, credit bureaus, utilities and many other documents so as to give detailed alerts on your credit situation. Since there are many plans that come with many plans, choose the one that works for you in terms of protecting our identity and affordability. It is time to act fast before something happens to your identity.

Clarence

Tina L Douglas asked:

Identity theft is a very serious concern for most American consumers. Every year, at least nine million Americans fall prey to this crime and the numbers are steadily increasing.

Identity theft causes a lot of emotional trauma for the victims. Often, victims feel hopeless, angry and frustrated. Some are left to cope with the distress alone while others are assisted by people who sympathize in their behalf. But other than the emotional turmoil that id theft causes, victims are even more overwhelmed of the financial obligations that they have to pay after the crime.

With the increasing number of victims of identity theft, various agencies have been established to help people cope with identity fraud as well as to help individual consumers prevent these from happening to them. If you try to search online for these companies, you will find that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them in the United States alone. This simply means that more an more people are realizing the threats that are being posed by id theft and they would want to be protected.

Of course, it would pay to choose the right identity theft protection program that is right for your needs and budget. But what do these Identity Theft Protection Programs typically do? Here are some:

1. The best identity theft program will set up a fraud alert in your account every three months, or quarterly. This will be done by the ID theft company and will involve a credit freeze in your account with all the three credit bureaus. This is a step that they typically do to monitor your credit report closely.

2. ID theft programs will request and monitor your credit report in your behalf and they whenever there are significant changes in the pattern of your credit report, they will report it immediately to you.

3. Have your name removed from all promotional offers so you will not receive any pre-approved credit card offers and junk mail that may otherwise contain your valuable information.

4. Provide their clients with victim recovery services which facilitates the entire process of clearing your credit history and fixing any financial liability that has been made under your account. Another feature of this recovery service includes a personal councilor who will guide their clients into maintaining their holistic being despite being victims of id fraud.

5. Most identity theft services offer payment for any professional assistance that may be required to restore the loss that their client incurs via identity theft. The victim will not worry too much about the expenses that will be incurred because that will be shouldered by the concurrent ID theft protection firm.

Before you subscribe to any identity theft service, you have to first provide them with all your expectations from a typical id theft protection program. After doing so, ask for the varied features and services that they offer to their clients and discuss any gaps between the client’s expectation and actual services offered.

Melvin

Natalie Colon asked:

What has caused the information breach we as Americans face today? That’s right, automation. With nearly all of our information from a simple bill pay website to a medical facility database, our information is exposed to a wide range of people.

I remember receiving a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs telling me that some of my information had been stolen from the back of an employee’s personal vehicle! Now what does the average middle class American like me do in the case that someone uses any of my information fraudulently? Well, there are a number of identity theft solutions.

However, which one is right for you? In today’s economy I would not want to spend on simply monitoring. I want to be able to fix the problem quickly and get back to my happy life again. Just like anything you buy in a store, identity theft protection should offer something more than a notification service.

Here is a checklist to assist in choosing an identity theft program that is right for you:

1) Affordability – Choose a program that suits your budget this will narrow down your list of programs so that you don not break the bank.

2) Protection – Choose a program that covers all five identity theft types: Financial, Medical, Social Security, Driver’s License, and Character/Criminal

3) Identity Restoration Services – Choose a program with this feature which can reduce the out-of-pocket expenses needed to perform this process when it does occur.

4) Finally, that all of the above will protect you and your family at no additional cost. Using this strategy you can definitely find a program that suits your needs and if you believe you have not been a victim, then at least get protected in the event you do become one.

Chad

Demarco Davidson asked:

During the 2004 Super Bowl, America was introduced to two new terms: Wardrobe Malfunction and Identity Theft. A commercial aired featuring a stocky African-American male with the voice of a bad Paris Hilton impersonation. It was humorous…unless you have been a victim of ID Theft. Americans then realized they needed to protect their Identities.

Identity theft is the largest and fastest growing white-collar crime in America. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen each year. But it’s not just fake credit cards, fraudulent checks, or Internet thieves lurking to get your Mother’s maiden name. That’s only about 27% of ID Theft. The other 70% of ID Theft is related to Social Security Numbers, Drivers Information, Medical Information, and Character/Criminal Information.

So how do credit card companies protect customers when they are wrongly detained for a DUI or being billed for an unknown medical procedure? NOTHING! So what are these companies protecting? THEIR MONEY…Not Yours. Many financial companies are charging their customers anywhere from $10 to $15 a month for voluntary credit card insurance. This is nothing new and actually is a complementary service.

A few companies are now offering consultation or “resolution” to ID Theft victims for a low monthly fee. Resolution is the equivalence of your house being on fire and the Fire Department sends you a Firefighter’s uniform and a water hose. Finding out about ID Theft is devastating but correcting it is the major headache. The FTC says it takes an average of 600 hours and $1500 to put a victim’s identity back to pre-theft status. The impact on small businesses and companies are worse.

Just like a doctor cannot truly prevent cancer, you cannot prevent ID Theft from happening. However, you can be sure to have a service that covers you before, during, and after the crime occurs. Be sure to have a service that monitors your complete Identity and not just one credit card. Most importantly, be sure to have a service that restores your identity for you. An ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure.

Gabriel

Hector Milla asked:

Each identity theft protection service is a little bit different, but most of them offer the same kinds of features and benefits.

Unfortunately, what criminals are doing is getting a hold of people’s personal information like their social security number, their date of birth or even just an address and using that information to open up credit cards, loans and other accounts in that person’s name. Since identity theft involves criminals opening up brand new accounts, the crime isn’t going to show up on your credit card statements or on your bills.

That’s a common misconception that many people have. The only place this specific crime is going to appear is on your credit report. It’s important to look at your credit report regularly to make sure there isn’t anything on it that you didn’t authorize or anything you don’t recognize. The great thing about these programs is that many of them offer an initial credit report for your review upon enrollment with the service, and also send you quarterly updates so you can keep track of what’s going on with your credit file.

Now, you can get a free copy of your credit report once a year, but the reason having an identity theft protection service in place is so beneficial is that they will generally cover any lawyer fees or other expenses incurred if you do become a victim. That way you won’t have to dip into your savings or anything to pay for the cost of fixing any problems.

Many programs will also monitor your credit file every single day so that if someone does try to use any of your personal information, like your name or social security number to open a new account, you’ll be contacted right away. You’ll also have help in correcting any errors and preventing fraudulent activity so criminals won’t have the chance to rack up debt in your name and ruin your good credit.

Identity theft protection programs offer wonderful benefits and can give you peace of mind because you’ll know you’re covered if a thief does use your personal information.

Diane

Chass Perez asked:

Identity theft protection services have only been around for the last few years, during which time, their aggressive marketing campaigns have raised awareness about a crime that has in fact swept across the U.S. at a rapid pace. Identity theft comes in many different factors, meaning it can happen to you in other forms besides credit fraud. Fraud prevention services emerged out of the need to centralize the monitoring and protection of personal records for consumers with sophisticated and state of the art technology to more accurately protect subscribers than they could if they were to implement these methods of identity theft protection on their own.

Out of the now dozens of available services that offer fraud protection, it’s going to be a little confusing for some to decide which identity theft protection service to sign up for in order to get the ultimate protection. Many of the security features are the same across the board. Services like, credit monitoring, fraud alerts, scanning of identity black markets, and opting you out of junk mail lists etc, are very common for most providers.

Let’s also be clear about something else, yes you can in fact take all of these steps above and secure your own identity, just know that it will take time and effort to do so and that’s the convenience of fraud prevention services. They automate all this to help you protect your identity and rid you of the burdens of doing so on your own, but they also offer security features that most consumers just don’t have the technical capability to perform as we’ll list below.

So who can you trust when it comes to choosing a fraud prevention company? There are a handful of providers that stand out of the circle of identity theft protection services. Trusted ID & Life Lock are among them and they are two of the biggest and most popular companies in the industry, and yes they too offer close to the same number of features with a few differences. Here are some of the most important ones.

Family plans – Any smart working professional who understands the importance of securing their own identity also understands how important it is to extend that protection to their family as well. From your spouse to your children, they should all be under the same protection plan and it should not mean a separate subscription for each. That’s why this is called a family plan. Unfortunately not all providers have an all family fraud prevention plan. Trusted ID and Identity Truth are two providers that do.

Medical Benefits Protection – Here’s another important security feature that’s yet to be offered by most identity theft protection service providers. This feature makes the service all that much more valuable because of the huge risk of medical identity theft. This type of identity theft can complicate your life to an extent for which there’s very little that can be done for you as the victim. The risks are high in this area and having this feature available in an identity theft protection plan can make all the difference. Currently Trusted ID is but one of a very short list of providers that offer this feature, other plans through less well known companies are also available but the costs are much higher.

Internet and Home computer security – Plans that do not include this level of security are just not adequate enough, if you like millions of Americans conduct research, work and business at home then you have to have some kind of protection on your computer system that can prevent trojans and spyware from infecting your computer and compromising your personal information. Trusted ID and Identity Guard are two such providers that offer this important feature.

Scouring the internet for your personal information – It’s important that consumers understand clearly that their information can be distributed across different channels on the internet and through other means by organizations and institutions they entrusted their information to. When these entities fail to protect this information properly, data breaches occur and the personal information of hundreds of thousands of individuals can be lost and exposed. When this happens, your information can end up listed for sale on financial black markets online. To protect your identity properly, you’d need to have a way to find your information online quickly before someone else does and take the proper steps to avoid being had by an identity thief. Without the adequate technology you won’t easily accomplish this on your own. That’s why just about all identity theft protection services employ state of the art technology to offer this important feature and alert you when your information is found.

The biggest benefit of outsourcing fraud prevention and protection of your identity to these companies is to simplify your life, keep you focused on your own affairs and give you peace of mind. Even when you take all the necessary steps on your own, and you should be, to protect your identity you can’t possibly cover yourself to the extent that these providers can. Trust in the systems established by these security specialists and should these systems fail to protect you, they will spend up to whatever designated amount in your policy is (typically between 20K and 1 Million) to help you recover and clean up your good name.

Julie

Jacob Warnock asked:

If you watch the television at all, then you must have had seen your fair share of identity theft protection plan commercials. These protection plans feature programs that help you prevent other people from stealing and compromising your identity. You might think that this is a problem that doesn’t really affect a lot of people, but you’ll be surprised that almost 15 million Americans could actually have their identities stolen this year alone.

Most identity theft protection plans continually monitor your credit report for sudden changes, whether it was you who made them or not. For instance, if you applied for a credit card, an insurance policy, or a mortgage, it will be noted on one of the three major credit-reporting agencies’ credit reports and will immediately be reported back to you. Sometimes this notification is immediate, that it will enable you to literally stop someone while they are caught in the act of stealing your identity!

Not all identity theft protection plans are the same for some offer many more features that are useful compared to the others. If you have children, you might not think that their credit worthiness is worth stealing, but that is entirely incorrect. A child’s Social Security number is like gold dust on the black market because thieves know that no one is checking their credit report for inaccuracies, which makes them even more attractive to the eyes of an identity thief. It is therefore not unlikely then that a child may reach the age of eighteen only to realize that numerous thieves have already destroyed his or her credit.

It may sound like an exaggeration or some sort of scare tactic just to make you sign up for one of these programs, but that is not true at all. People have had their identities stolen in the United States and as a matter of fact, one single person in the United States gets his or her identity stolen every two seconds, and if you aren’t properly protected, the chances are pretty good that you’ll be the next victim. The cost to clean up an identity theft crime in terms of time, money and emotional trauma really is too much to ignore and not be cautious of.

Fortunately, there are a number of protection plans available to date that will allow you to get access to tools that can help you detect attacks on your identity while it’s still early. They also provide resources that will help you restore your good name and credit if ever you do become a victim. In order to protect your identity you must be proactive! Secure a protection plan now and save yourself from all the hassle and trauma that could change you and your family’s entire future!

Gina

Hector Milla asked:

Theft protection services offer a lot of things that would be more costly and time consuming to do on your own. Sure you could pull your credit report once per year for free at all of the three credit bureaus, however that will only allow monitoring of your credit up to three times per year. By using a professional you would be notified of anything that has occurred on your credit report at any time. This is important in securing your identity as it would notify you immediately when something goes wrong so it can be stopped before it gets too late.

There are many things that can happen when you identity is stolen. Many people only think about money stolen from their credit cards and feel that these services would not be worth the membership fees as their credit card companies will recoup any money lost in the event of a stolen credit card. But imagine if it wasn’t your credit card. What if an identity thieves stole your name, social security number, address and other personal information and used it to take out a couple of large loans. Now assume that you already looked at your credit report recently and so you won’t be pulling your report for another three months. Now you have absolutely no way of knowing that these loans have been taken out. That is, of course, until the bank starts calling you because you are three months deficient on a loan you didn’t know you had. In this case you are completely liable to repay those loans and your credit that you’ve worked so hard to maintain has now been ruined.

The above is the best example of why it is important to let professionals to protect your good name. If you had identity theft protection in the above scenario you would have been notified immediately that a company (the bank issuing the loan) was looking into your credit. Assuming that you weren’t expecting an inquiry from that particular bank you could call them and find out why they were looking into. In this case scenario you would probably be able to stop the loan from even being issued, and the person committing the fraud will most likely get caught.

Jon

Ryan J. Taylor asked:

Identity theft is rampant and destroying millions of people’s lives. You need identity protection, theft prevention and anything to reduce the chances of getting your personal information stolen.

I.D. theft has always been a problem, but it’s no longer about dumpster divers or people changing your mailing address. Now employees at your job can access your Social Security number and hackers can see everything on your personal hard drive. As the internet grows and becomes available across the world, someone from Nigeria can take a peak at your bank account.

It is essential that you protect your identity. The average American that faces identity theft spends 440 hours trying to restore their credit, finances and other issues that can occur.

There are a number of things you can do right now to protect yourself and prevent identity theft. Such as:

Shred your documents Install a firewall, antivirus, and spyware removal software on your computer Stop junk mail Only use your Social Security number when necessary

These basic steps will help, but there is more you need to do than just the basics in today’s wired world. You need to monitor your credit report, reduce the risks of security breaches and watch who is accessing your personal information on a daily basis.

You can mostly do this for free, but you can save yourself a lot of trouble by spending a just few dollars a month for a service that will completely protect you. These services are well worth the money just for their guarantees alone. If for any reason someone steal your identity, they will do whatever it takes to restore your personal information and claim any loses you may have incurred.

That means they’ll deal with filing police reports, they’ll deal with the lawyers, they’ll cancel your credit cards and get new accounts created for you. These services will save you frustration, time and money, and will allow you to peacefully shop online and go about your life without any worries.

Charles
